I had
the pleasure of working with Pia whilst managing formal education projects at
Bow Arts. Pia's workshops were always well planned, structured and pitched to
specific client groups. Her creativity, coupled with her tone and encouragement
always removed barriers participants felt about their own abilities. Pia can
teach technique and is very skilled in supporting participants to observe
carefully and critically, to develop personal responses and explore and
experiment with confidence. She is exceptionally well organised and an

I’m
committed to sharing the benefits of drawing with young people, placing
emphasis on careful observation to build specific skills and promoting wellbeing
by engaging carefully with the world around us. &#38;nbsp;Drawing supports motor skills and handwriting, which is,
of course, a form of drawing.



My
carefully planned workshops engage with specific themes and topics and help integrate arts into the school curriculum in primary, secondary and special needs
settings. As well as developing practical skills my sessions
include collaboration and conversation, encouraging
students to share thoughtful responses to their own work and that of
others. 



Resourceful
use of materials ensures activities are accessible and protects both the

Pia was
such an excellent and inspiring tutor when she worked with us leading an
intergenerational arts and crafts group that was attended by a range of kids,
families and older people. Her activities were always inventive and exciting
yet achievable. Although it was a drop-in group, many people returned week
after week. Pia's lovely energy manages to be both fun and calming which is
ideal for some of the children we work with - I couldn't recommend her enough

Pia has
been an invaluable asset to our Foundation Course working with our Fine Art and
Illustration students. The students have benefitted from her wealth of
knowledge and experience that she shares through well-informed presentations,
structured workshops and demonstrations. ‘Bedroom printmaking’ has always been
most popular with the students, as she’s shown them how to engage with print without
print studio equipment, using easy to access materials and adjusted techniques.

Drawing
is fundamental to creative careers,
and I work with students ambitious to progress in a diverse range of
professional fields. My lectures, workshops and tutorials are designed to inspire
and sustain the future practice of young artists studying on
Kingston University’s Art Foundation course and The Royal Drawing School Young
Associates Programme.



Drawing,
critical and investigative techniques are developed through my applied and research
sessions. The young artists learn practical skills and make personal
connections to artists, media and cultural or social ideas. Projects may progress into the form of printmaking,
painting, photography, sculpture, film or textile arts. Students build
impressive portfolios, allowing them to advance towards their chosen career.



A
co-operative and professional studio atmosphere is nurtured, establishing the
importance of collaboration, sharing ideas generously and appreciating

Pia’s
work with ActionSpace’s artists with complex learning disabilities is
outstanding. She encourages them to explore their creativity,
develop their skills, strive for excellence and achieve their potential. Her
success in doing this is demonstrated by the joy the artists display when
working with her, the standard of the artwork they produce and the positive
feedback they received from visitors to our exhibitions.

It’s a privilege to be a part of ActionSpace’s team
supporting artists with learning disabilities. I work closely with individuals
to understand their interests and assist them to develop an ambitious, independent
studio practice. 




I lead ActionSpace’s programme for adults with
profound and multiple disabilities, based at The Greenwood Centre in Camden. Activities and materials are adapted for
individual participants, and everyone is encouraged to make independent choices
as we experiment with sound, touch, light and movement. 
 
I’m proud to share our
practice and principles with NHS and social care trainees visiting our
sessions. Carefully curated exhibitions, events and open activity sessions engage with a wider audience and showcase ActionSpace’s projects and the exceptional work of the artists. &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;

Relaxed CPD sessions introduce new skills in a fun and
accessible way, with techniques adapted to particular themes and topics. My work connects drawing with other subjects and promotes it as a
tremendously valuable educational and wellbeing skill. Each session
is designed to support the specific aims and values of a school, to help integrate
drawing into their curriculum.



 
Building confidence liberates teaching
staff from anxieties about being ‘bad’ at drawing, and offers an opportunity to
take a more personal, playful approach. Alongside sharing practical skills, I introduce relevant and relatable
artists for reference and provide a framework for engaging thoughtfully with
their life and work.

Pia
is able to engage the most sensory learners and help them to participate in the
most well-resourced, creative and differentiated art activities. &#38;nbsp;She was
able to produce astounding creativity with them and they responded really
surprisingly to these activities which included colour, audio and tactile activities including dyeing, sound
techniques, charcoal work, and paper making.

Through a long
term partnership with teachers at a specialist state school for Autistic
students, I have been delivering playful
activities which explore the sensory possibilities of materials. Sessions are open-ended and responsive, allowing individuals to direct
their own outcomes. Students often find it particularly exciting and rewarding to make their own art materials from scratch.





Equipment and spaces are used imaginatively and
safely, and I prepare and adapt for unpredictable behaviour. Building an
energetic creative atmosphere keeps students engaged, and I maintain balance with
periods of calm concentration. 


Working closely with teachers and support staff to
share skills and knowledge, students are encouraged to work collaboratively,
make independent choices and share ideas non-verbally.
